Roger joined the BBC straight from school, and spent eight years working as a communications engineer, before transferring to Birmingham’s Audio Unit, where he developed his skills as an Audio Assistant, Supervisor, and Senior Supervisor.
For ten years he specialised in drama, both radio and television, but then worked on television variety shows, film and video shoots, radio and television outside broadcasts, and film and video dubbing. His later years at the BBC were spent assisting with the design and commissioning of dubbing suites, television outside broadcast trucks, and writing technical manuals.
As a freelance, Roger has worked as a sound recordist for several Midlands-based video production companies, as a technical co-ordinator and site-survey engineer for Visionlink, a London-based satellite communications company. His biggest job to date has been as sole technical co-ordinator for the Archers Addicts 50th Anniversary celebrations, involving a whole-day exhibition and evening stage show at the National Indoor Arena.
